Team Selection Policy & Guidelines

This document has been produced to clarify the team selection process.
It is club policy to support our coaches in any reasonable decision they make. The club requires our coaches to adhere to the following guidelines as far as possible.

Age Groups U17’s, U19’s and open aged
The club aspires to provide players the opportunity to play in the highest level within the league. The clubs divisional allocation is determined by the performance of the senior team in the pervious season and / or the number of divisions.

The selection of the side is the responsibility of the appointed coaching panel. This is to be based on the coach’s judgment and perception of the player’s abilities, potential, development, attitude, commitment and the need for team balance.

Age Group’s U 19’s
All players eligible to play in under 19’s shall do so unless directed by the senior coaching panel.
Where two sides are formed in the same age group and in different divisions or league. Coaches are empowered to select teams. This is to be based on the coach’s judgment and perception of the player’s abilities, potential, development, attitude, commitment and the need for team balance
The senior coach will assist the coaches to select the sides if required
The club appreciates that there may be extenuating circumstances, and that some players may wish to be in a particular side. Such requests should be made through the coaches and team managers of the respective teams where consideration will be given to the requests.

Age Group’s U/17
The Club aspires to provide players the opportunity to play in the highest level within the league. A teams grading is determined by the performance of the team over the league grading rounds at the start of each season.
A greater emphasis is placed upon individual and team performances.
Where there is a single side in any age group selection of the side is the responsibility of the appointed coach.
Where two sides are formed in the same age group and in different Divisions, Coaches are empowered to select teams. This is to be based on the Coaches judgment and perception of the player’s abilities, potential, development, attitude, commitment and the need for team balance.
Where two sides are formed in the same age group and in the same division, it is the wish of the Club that the two sides will be picked by the Coaches to form two ‘equal’ teams.
The Club expects that, Coaches must endeavor to provide the maximum number of players an opportunity to participate.
The club appreciates that there may be extenuating circumstances, and that some players may wish to be in a particular side. Such requests should be made through the coaches and team managers of the respective teams where every consideration will be given to the requests.

Advancement from Under 17’s & 19’s
Eligible under 17’s players of the current season wishing to advance from under 17’s to under 19’s within the same season will do so only on the direction of the coaching panel.
Eligible under 19’s players for the current season wishing to advance to reserves or seniors in the same season can only do so on the direction of the senior coaching panel

The club appreciates that there may be extenuating circumstances, and that some players may wish to be in a particular side. Such requests should be made through the coaches of the respective teams where every consideration will be given to the requests.

Issue resolution:
If a player or parent has an issue relating to team selection they should:
Raise the issue with the coaching staff
This needs to be done in an appropriate manner taking into consideration time, place and attitude.
If the initial party still feels the issue is un-resolved they can place their concern in writing to be considered by the committee.
